Low Caffeine, Low Expectations

Image result for close but no cigar coffee

I know a guy -- I'd say he was a "member of the Counter-Jihad" (or better yet, "of the Anti-Islam Movement"), except that since there's no actually coherently organized "Counter-Jihad" (or "Anti-Islam Movement"), he can't really be a member of it -- whose screen name on the Paltalk chat venue is "SamHuntington" (named after the writer of The Clash of Civilizations) and whom I've known for years to be, generally speaking, quite tough on Islam.  At the same time, over the years I've also noticed now and then various disquieting signs of nougat (i.e., soft spots) here and there in his discourse about the problem of Islam, possibly significant enough to undercut his overall toughness. Or possibly not.  I'm still not sure where my friend Sam stands, given these soft spots.

Either way, these signs do indicate a more general problem in "the Counter-Jihad", where such signs, depending on the individual -- and depending on various consensuses involving decision-making for the group (such as it is) -- can and seemingly do indeed undercut a tough stance vis-à-vis the problem of Islam.  This -- need I add? -- is particularly disquieting, given that "the Counter-Jihad" is the only area of sociopolitical consciousness leading to action in the entire West where a tough stance has a chance of growing (and from there, helping to awaken the rest of the West).

At any rate, today's posting focuses on one type of soft spot, and that is the nougat of low expectations. In this case, the low expectations refers to Sam's ebullient praise of a mainstream documentary that is supposed to be spot on about the problem of Islam. The documentary is featured  on Netflix -- Manhunt: The Search for Bin Laden -- and is based on a book (roughly the same title) by journalist Peter Bergen.

Since this series about which my friend Sam raved and swore it had no soft spots in its treatment of the central issue (Islamic jihad) is based centrally on Peter Bergen's book, and since Peter Bergen is featured in the series, I figured that, short of actually watching the whole series, finding out who this Peter Bergen fellow is would go a long way toward vetting the series and seeing if my friend Sam was being accurate.

Well, on Peter Bergen's webpage, we see a new(er) book he is advertising, titled, with conspicuously suspicious bravado, United States of Jihad (with clever typography showing the word "America" superimposed diagonally by "Jihad").  The brief descriptions and blurbs sound good -- robustly anti-Jihad, right? -- and no doubt my friend Sam would be impressed by them, until he puts two and two together and connects the dots.

For example, knowing what we in the Counter-Jihad know about our Western mainstream and how it routinely whitewashes Islam and in various ways punishes (including among other appalling things, ostracizing and character assassination) critics of Islam that in their politically correct estimation go too far -- i.e., don't limit their criticism/condemnation to the Tiny Minority of Extremists Who Are Twisting the Lovely Religion of Peace Followed by the Vast Majority of Muslims; Muslims Who, As We All Know (thanks to Imam Affleck), Just Wanna Have Sandwiches -- it makes no sense that they would praise a book on Jihad in America that violates the dominant politically correct paradigm.  And if my friend Sam thought about it, he would agree, I am sure, that if the West doesn't transition to a new frame of mind & culture whereby it actually supports -- rather than punishes -- a violation of this politically correct paradigm, it doesn't stand a chance to defend itself in the long term from the threat of Islam.

So how then on Allah's Green Earth could this Peter Bergen guy get so many effusive accolades of praise from the Western mainstream?  If his Islam criticism dared to be one inch outside the Politically Correct Reservation, it makes no sense and would be virtually impossible for him to garner such praise. This is not even to mention that Netflix, the venue for the series based on Bergen's other book, is solidly mainstream. So ask yourself: Do you think Netflix would ever in a million years dare to air (let alone showcase and promote) a series featuring and fully supporting Robert Spencer, Pam Geller, and Bill Warner?  I don't either.

Examples of the Western mainstream's praise of Bergen's book are on his webpage.  Here are a couple of screen shots:

The rest of the page, which my second screen shot cuts off, is a reproduction of a long New York Times review which praises Bergen's book, without a hint that Bergen might have committed the thought crimes of Islamophobia or bigotry or racism (charges routinely leveled at most of the Counter-Jihad analysts who remain outside the pale of the mainstream West, never reviewed or mentioned at all unless in passing to be demonized with such epithets).

Not only are all these praises coming from solidly mainstream Western sources (New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, TIME magazine, Washington Post) and one Islamic media outlet pretending to be part of the Western mainstream (Al Jazeera America), but one of the two New York Times notices of praise comes from a guest review penned by none other than Janet Napolitano, who served as Secretary of Homeland Security under Obama (2009-2013).  There's no way in hell that she, or any of these other reviewers (and their politically correct editors and publishers granting them their imprimaturs) would possibly praise a book about Jihad in America that wasn't unacceptably soft -- by Counter-Jihad standards, that is.

Faith Goldy is a Mooner...?

Image result for faith goldy cup of coffee

Not too long ago, I watched an interview with Faith Goldy (whom I've praised and defended before), well conducted by an interviewer I've never seen before -- Michael Malice on his show "Your [sic?] Welcome" -- eliciting many interesting things about her thoughts and opinions on sundry matters -- for example, at about the 30 minute mark, she recounted what it was like to be on the ground at the Charlottesville event in the summer of 2017, but still not being quite in touch with the mainstream media's spin as it was spinning out of control:

"I did not understand that the narrative had gone from 'right wing patriot rally in support of [Robert E] Lee statue' to 'literal Nazis killing people on the streets'.  I didn't realize that shift had happened."

At the time I thought to myself, "another good insight by Faith" and settled back for another half hour of more; when, at about 33:16, I almost did a spit-take of my decappuccino when she answered Michael's softball question --

"If you could live anywhere else on earth, where would you choose to live?"

-- by saying, with a straight face, parenthetically and sincerely:

"Definitively the moon. I think it would be great to be the first person that actually lands there."

I rewound it and listened again. Yep. She actually said that, and wasn't joking.  She's another Moon Landing conspiracy theorist, apparently (I guess we could call them "Mooners"...).

I had an "esprit d'escalier"...

Image result for escalier cafe

The esprit d'escalier is a French expression which literally means "the witty rejoinder of the stairs" -- meaning a witty rejoinder that occurs to someone only after they've left the party and are already on the stairs leaving the room (i.e., too late).

In a posting a few days ago here, I was complaining (yet again) about a long-time veteran commenter on Jihad Watch (and hence member of the Readership of the Counter-Jihad Mainstream), one "Wellington", who back in mid-May made the following demand of my favorite Jihad Watch commenter, "The Big W":

thebigW: What the hell are you talking about? Who here at JW is fine with Muslims in a Western nation but not OK with Islam in a Western nation? The burden of proof is now on you. Please explain yourself.

When a few days after that I penned another posting about old Wellington, I had forgotten about that previous one. For, with exquisitely painful irony, and as I documented in that posting ("Give me a cup of REAL, strong, black... decaf tea"), Wellington himself has uttered statements that clearly indicate he is fine with Muslims in a Western nation (in this instance, America)!

For example:

Muslims in America... are simply not mass-murdering Americans. Yes, there are numerous Muslim atrocities in America over the past twenty years or so but the chances that an American will be killed by a Muslim still remains infinitesimally small—-a tiny, tiny fraction of a 1% chance.

Or:

...the vast majority of Muslims in America, confused human beings though they are (on this I know we can agree), do not commit any ACTS which are prosecutable.

And much more, which I delve into at length in that aforementioned previous posting, indicating that Wellington apparently considers Islam's Muslims to be a static problem for the West, not a metastasizing problem with a catastrophic vector leading to our society's physical destruction.

Nearly 20 years after 911, and we're still grateful for crumbs...

Related image

A recent Jihad Watch posting had a misleading headline:

Professor Jordan Peterson declares “Islam is not compatible with democracy” ...

Actually, Peterson was a good bit more elliptical and less bold (as I've found him to be before).  As our old friend "The Big W" pointed out, what the good Professor actually said (according to Sputnik News) was:

“It is not clear to me that Islam would be compatible with democracy,” he said in an interview with Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet. “We have no evidence that it would be.”

And leave it to Big W to hit the nail on the head -- sure, a little hamfistedly, but hey, I'd rather have someone who gets the actual problem on my team rather than someone like Peterson who hems and haws while Rome burns:

LMAO–“It is not clear to me” ha ha. Well, it IS clear to me, an’ I don’t need no PhfreakingD to know that Islam ain’t compatible with democracy or with decent human society.

Meanwhile,  none of the other of the Readership were able to quite say what Big W expressed so effortlessly.  Sure, a few commenters on that Jihad Watch article said in a sort of roundabout way (thus committing the same faux pas Peterson did!) that Peterson wasn't firm enough; but usually couched in terms of "well, it's so hard these days to go against political correctness...!" etc.  Most seemed to be lauding him for the crumbs that fell from his more mainstream table onto the Counter-Jihad floor.

So at what point will the Counter-Jihad expect more -- not mere crumbs, but a robust, piping-hot meat pie (i.e., the unvarnished truth about Islam) -- from those we supposedly admire as being above political correctness (as Jordan Peterson is touted to be)...?  Before or after Muslims succeed in destroying our societies...?

"Give me a cup of REAL, strong, black... decaf tea."

Related image

I've seen a lot of "Real Problemers" in various nooks and crannies of the Counter-Jihad over the years (as I've analyzed now and then on this blog and my previous blog, The Hesperado); but until recently -- specifically June 3rd, 2019, at about 10:00 pm -- I'd never seen it in quite so stark an articulation.  And precisely because of its starkness, it was all the more disturbing, given that the one articulating should know by now how bad Islam is.

I speak of one "Wellington", a long-time veteran commenter on Jihad Watch for about 15 years, and one of the more intelligent to boot.  However, as I've had run-ins with Wellington over the years, I was not utterly shocked by his recent statement. Still, it was dismaying; and perhaps what disturbed me so much was to see some of the flaws of the Counter-Jihad (about which I've written many times over the years) suddenly laid bare in all its forceful starkness.

So what did Wellington say, my 4.5 readers may wonder at this juncture.  Well, Pepe, I'm glad you ask. Let me quote it in full (bolded portion(s) are added by me):

Wellington says

Jun 2, 2019 at 5:31 pm

Here in America the real enemy, the ultimate enemy, is not Islam. No, rather it is the Democratic Party which by the year is becoming increasingly unhinged and an enemy of America.

The Democratic Party of old, which stood for liberty and the rule of law (though with too much of an inclination for more government from FDR, even from Wilson, onward as this conservative sees matters) is a thing of the past. There are still faint Democratic political vapors out there, led by people like Dershowitz and Liberman and recalling the Democratic Party of a bygone era, though they are dwindling rapidly, and now the Democrats are led either by half-crazies, examples being Pelosi and Schumer, full crazies, examples being AOC and Nadler, or the completely evil, examples being Omar and Tlaib.

Compounding “the problem” is that about half of the Republican Party is utterly clueless. Such people as Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Pat Toomey come to mind.

This is not a “good mix” for America, for the West in general, for liberty, even for sanity. Count on it and know full well that bastions of iniquity and lunacy, like Islam and what the Democratic Party of America has become, are “waiting in the wings” to take full advantage of this extreme low point in American history.

I mean, after those first two sentences, one doesn't need to read the rest of that bloviation (unless, of course, the following sentences said, "Holy crap! Scratch what I said in my first two sentences! I was dreadfully, drastically WRONG...!!!"  But of course, no such luck have we.  As I said above, on one level, I wasn't really surprised to see Wellington go that far, because I'd already seen signs of that disposition, years ago.

For example, I analytically documented this general issue in an essay on The Hesperado back in October of 2016 -- Apparently, the Constitution is a Suicide Pact... -- in which old Wellington, arguing with me on this general topic, featured prominently. A juicier quote from the horse's mouth in this regard would be hard to find:

Let's face it, the vast majority of Muslims in America, confused human beings though they are (on this I know we can agree), do not commit any ACTS which are prosecutable.

And, as I remarked in my final paragraph of that essay:

"Apparently, these past 13 years of reading Jihad Watch have failed to impress upon Wellington the uniqueness of this asymmetrical world war we are in.  That rather revealing off-the-cuff remark of his reflects what I would call the State Dept. Counter-Terrorism Expert Analysis Protocol of the Eternal "Whack-a-Mo" Initiative.  Which will only work to save us if the problem of Muslims following their global revival of Islam is not, in fact, systemic and metastasizing.  Is Wellington so sure he'd like to bet that it isn't?"

If that weren't bad enough, back in December of 2014, I documented another Wellington solecism from a month prior (he addressing me as "voegelinian" -- my nickname on Jihad Watch at the time):

Muslims in America, voegelinian, are simply not mass-murdering Americans. Yes, there are numerous Muslim atrocities in America over the past twenty years or so but the chances that an American will be killed by a Muslim still remains infinitesimally small—-a tiny, tiny fraction of a 1% chance. So, you get this wrong. And you will get nowhere by saying something to the effect that such mass murders will occur in the future. They might but legally acting upon this “might” is simply not going to happen.

At the time, I had a lengthy response, on the pages of Jihad Watch comments (which no one, including Wellington, responded to, naturally).  Here follows my response:

Wellington wrote:

“Muslims in America, voegelinian, are simply not mass-murdering Americans”

This is a straw man. It astounds that such a long-time Jihad Watch reader & veteran would even proffer such a straw man — as though the only danger comes from visibly exploding & beheading Muslims (or lighting a fuse or brandishing a sword). After all these years of reading JW, Wellington cannot connect those thousands of dots that link all Muslims together (“in America” — and anywhere) in their ideology which is a living blueprint for our mass-murder, and the planned destruction of our society (which destruction does not have to succeed to be robustly defended against with proactive intelligence and action). Astounding.

Then Wellington had to reiterate his Maginot Line:

Wellington says
November 3, 2014 at 9:55 pm
Voegelinian: A living blueprint for mass-murder is quite different than actual mass-murder. Don’t forget next time you talk about mass-murder you make this distinction. Sloppy of you (exceedingly so) if you don’t.

To which, by some miracle, I was able to rouse myself from near unconsciousness after having hit my head against the wall too many times to respond:

Wellington wrote:

Wellington only puts two things on the table here —

1) a living blueprint for mass-murder

2) actual mass-murder

— omitting a crucial third thing:

3) a living blueprint for mass-murder that

a) has already been activated several times (um, remember 911…? — and every plot to mass-murder us that we have luckily aborted counts in addition to the plots that have been horribly realized)

b) that thrives in various parts of the world in a context of intent for the worst (e.g., al qaeda’s explicit goal discovered in the 1990s to mass-murder 2 to 3 million Americans) — to try to wreak utmost havoc on us at times and places we may well not be able to predict; an intent that, again, is systemic (broad-based & whose extent is unknown by us) and metastasizing (getting horribly worse).

Factoring in 3a+b — as Wellington strangely, astoundingly continues to fail to do after all these years of plowing through the drearily ghastly mountains of dots and oceans of data Jihad Watch has been reporting over a decade year after year, month after month, week after week, day after day — we can no longer be as complacently abstract about this problem as Wellington seems to be.

Every week that I survey a week’s report on Jihad Watch of the ghastly, ghoulish, horrific, terrifying hill of oozing deadly toxic shit Muslims spew out, I am boggled, aggrieved and increasingly sickened by the Jihad Watch Softies who continue, in November of 2014, to think in 9:18 a.m 9/11/01 terms.

Wellington’s response to this, then, was telling – the “Leftist Two-Step” (of course he would protest that he’s “not a Leftist” – but that’s precisely the problem with the asymptotic mind, which is the Counter-Jihad retention of PC MC which, in turn, is Leftism Lite palatable enough to be swallowed and regurgitated even by self-identified conservatives). His Leftist Two-Step caused him to respond with the reflex spasm of suddenly resorting to the pragmatic objection of how deportation could be legally sanctioned in America, given the Constitution, and also pulling out the old “where are you going to deport the Muslims to canard (which is so asinine it boggles the mind and takes one’s breath away to see uttered by a long-time Jihad Watch reader), after he had been droning on about the substantive objection (that Muslims in America somehow, magically, are less deadly than Muslims elsewhere in the world). Thus his Leftist Two-Step:

“Your phantom distinction, voegelinian, between 1) “a blueprint for mass murder” and 3) “a blueprint for mass murder” followed by a) and b) aside, I request again, assuming you are completely correct about the necessity of deportation of Muslims en masse from America, how you propose this can be accomplished, taking into account the American judiciary, the Congress, how the “round-up” will occur, the destination that Muslims will be sent to, where they will be received, etc….”

Notice my bold emphasis of that little “aside” – which rhetorically and casually nudges off the table of consideration the 911 Twin Tower attacks (not to mention the dozens of other attacks Muslims have plotted against Americans in years after up to the ongoing flaming present).
